Mary Gibson has enjoyed the life of a string teacher for over 38 years. She has taught in public schools, private music conservatories and in her private studios while living in Connecticut, Boston, Illinois and Vermont. As founder and director of the Vermont String School, a non-profit organization, Mary has been dedicated to string instruction for children in her home state. She has been a popular clinician for Suzuki Workshops, ASTA festivals and served as the local coordinator for the Perlman Music Program's Vermont workshops.
Mary studied violin with Ik-Haun Bae at the University of Connecticut, David Cerone at The Meadowmount School and Suzuki Pedagogy with John Kendall at the University of Southern Illinois. She has been a member of the Mozart Festival Orchestra, The Hanover Chamber Orchestra, Nauge Chamber Ensemble of Boston, the Champlain String Quartet as resident quartet at the State University of New York in Plattsburgh and she continues to play with Vermont Symphony Orchestra.
As a lover of travel, adventure and music, Mary has performed with touring orchestras in Mexico, Greece, Spain, Italy. Mary's latest seven year adventure was living in Perth, Australia! She returned back to Vermont in November 2020 and is excited to be teaching and playing closer to home.
