Marla Rathbun loves performing contemporary and traditional music with her piano partner Cynthia Peterson, as well as various forms of chamber music. She played with Maria Rivera, in the Rathbun/Rivera Duo for many years. She is a first violinist in her local orchestra: the Hudson Valley Symphony Orchestra. Marla plays in the Orchestra of Northern New York, and in Eleva Chamber Players. She was longstanding violinist in the Aurora Quintet, principal second with the Connecticut Grand Opera Orchestra, and taught at the Ithaca Chamber Music Institute. As a 3-year resident of Rio de Janeiro, Rathbun performed music of contemporary Brazilian composers, and played the World Premier of Marcos Lucas’ Solilóquio, composed for her. A Poughkeepsie, NY resident, Marla and her husband pursue their passion for trekking to out-of-the way places, seeking beautiful and interesting birds, most recently to Madagascar.
